Especially for Lefties

If you’re left handed you might be frustrated reading crochet patterns as they’re often geared towards those right handed stitchers. Here’s the good news:  formation of stitches and holding your hook and your yarn are exactly the same for lefties as it is for those who crochet right handed.

While patterns and instructions are almost always written for (and by) right handed people, you will have to remember to substitute right for left and vice versa. Generally adjustments only need to be made for this.  For lefties who are learning to crochet from another person usually the best method is sitting directly across from them and mirroring their movements – which can actually be easier than if you were right handed.

For those who are relying on a manual for directions,  if you’re using internet images, you can use a mirror at your monitor to flip the image (which gives them a left handed interpretation) or you can right click on the image and move the image into Windows(TM) Paint which will allow you to flip the diagram horizontally or you can change the printer settings to print a ‘mirror’ image.

Even though it might take a few extra minutes of preparation time, taking these steps before you get started will save you a lot of time that you would have to take trying to figure out how to reverse directions while you’re working!
