Shopping for Yarn

Everyone has different methods for shopping for yarn.  For instance, some yarn lovers will shop and have to pick up each individual skein of yarn and bury their faces in them, to get a feel for how soft the yarn is, others will squeeze the skeins of yarn and still others will unravel parts of the yarn and drape it across their neck to see how it feels.

It appears that most people who shop for yarn fall into three categories of shopper and they can be spotted this way:

A Squeeze Shopper

This shopper will pick up a ball of yarn and unravel a few pieces of it and squeeze the strands and rub it between their fingers. They typically will try to get a feel for how it will move through their fingers when they are trying to work with it.

The Yarn Rubber

These shoppers are pretty simple to spot! You’ll find them rubbing the ball of yarn across their cheeks and you might even spot them with a couple of skeins of yarn in their cart with pieces of it draped across their necks while shopping – they’re typically trying to find out if the yarn might make them itch once a garment is created from it.

You’ve got to wear it!

This is an amusing one to watch since this type of shopper is trying to decide how a finished garment is going to look!  What you’ll see here is the person who has the skein draped around their necks and their typically trying to find a mirror in as natural a light as possible so they can see what the final garment color will look like with their complexion. They’re one of the easiest ones to spot as they may have multiple color yarns draped over them!

Don’t be too surprised if you see one or more of these types of shoppers while you’re out looking for the next yarn for your crochet project.  Go to our blog and share what type of yarn shopper you are! What methods do you think work best for you?!
